Gray wolves are native to Canada, Europe, and some areas of Asia and the U.S.A..Although they are called grey wolves, thier color can varie from black to pure white, depending on thier environment. Timber wolves and arctic wolves belong to the same species. Wolf pups weigh about 1 pound at birth. There are 4-7 pups in a litter. Thier dens are often caves or hollow logs near a stream. Wolves have strong family attachments, and mate for life. They nurture thier young, and choose a leader for thier pack.Healthy wolves will not attack humans. They kill the oldest and the weakest animals in a herd for food, thus ensuring an ecological balance. When wolves howl, they are communicating with other packs, most likely to proclaim thier territorial rights.
